Things were initially good between Mac Jones and former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Jones claimed the two would even sometimes eat breakfast together and hang out. However, something clearly changed between the two at some point along the way. Even to this day, Jones isn’t exactly sure why things switched up. “I felt like early, like the first year was great,” Jones said on Bussin’ With The Boys .
“We would eat breakfast sometimes together and hang out and get to know each other. I don’t know what happened. It just kind of like switched a little bit. But yeah, he has a personality. He’s funny, has good jokes in the meetings, like people laughed at his jokes. We would kind of joke on the field a little bit, but I don’t know, just the personalities were so different.
It’s me, just kind of like outgoing and energetic and dancing on the field, and it just didn’t match up.”
Jones made it clear that there are no hard feelings with Belichick, who he credited for teaching him a lot during their time together. Both sides clearly wanted the relationship to work out better than it did, but it wasn’t the right fit at the time. More importantly, the Patriots weren’t in a good place to facilitate the development of a young quarterback. The team struggled to draft well, and Josh McDaniels leaving for the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job set the offense back significantly.
