A series of welfare payment cancellations caused by an IT system error at the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations saw an estimated 60,000 people not receiving the money they were entitled to, a report has found.
Around 310,000 people were given the wrong date on which they had to reconnect with mutual obligation requirements or face having their payments cancelled. Around 20% of those ended up wrongly missing out on payments.
Mutual obligation requirements apply to the likes of JobSeeker payments, Youth Allowance for job seekers, and the Parenting Payment in some instances.
