Hardwood timber Sept. 5 incident saw a boat swamped and capsized in high winds, claiming the life of a 60-year-old from Maple, Ont.
A 60-year-old resident of Maple, Ont., is dead following a Sept. 5 drowning in Bad River Channel near Georgian Bay.
Const. Brandon Charlebois, the media officer with West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police, confirmed the Sept. 5 drowning in an email to Sudbury.com.
“I can confirm officers were dispatched on September 5th to an overturned boat in the Bad River area,” Charlebois said. “The boat capsized due to high wind and waves. A 60-year-old person from Maple, Ontario was pulled from the water and pronounced deceased.”
Bad River Channel sits between Georgian Bay and the French River. OPP confirmed that the incident saw three people go into the water when the boat capsized. Two made it safely to shore while the third drowned.
Police were dispatched to the scene at around 7:58 p.m. on Sept. 5.
Police told Sudbury.com the investigation is still looking to determine whether the anglers were wearing lifejackets. Whether charges will be laid is still an open question as of this publication.
