Hardwood timber An emphatic, uplifting project…

Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman paints a perfect picture of what it is like to take a peek behind the white picket fences of America’s Southern States, regardless of where in the world you might be tuning in from. ‘Rat Saw God’ – the band’s first release for Dead Oceans following two records with Orindal – is a hazily relatable collection of stories about burnouts, heartbreaks and the dilapidated state lives can fall into.
Documenting both desperation and deliverance through a littered trail of shoegazing noise (‘Bull Brazen’), heartland rock (‘Chosen To Deserve’) and Waterloo Sunsets (‘Quarry’), the four piece effortlessly unravel a special thread of indie rock. Finding magic in the mire ‘Rat Saw God’ is an emphatic, uplifting reminder of the privilege of being alive.
