ByteDance’s short video app Douyin (TikTok outside China) noted that users spent RMB 1.41 trillion ($208 billion) buying things through the app, a 76% annual increase, according to The Information, citing internal data. At the same time, TikTok saw an impressive four-fold growth in e-commerce spending in Southeast Asia, with gross merchandise volume (GMV) reaching $4.4 billion.
